Live, Reflect, Create
I have been wanting to have a blog that helps me share my scrapbook creations, but also to reflect a little on my life. I've started a few other blogs in the last several years, and I looked back at one of the posts, in which I had documented some details about my daughter (at that time, she was about 2 years old). As I reread the post, I realized that I had already forgotten about some of these details. So I knew right then that I wanted to get back to documenting, just for the sake of documenting life.
Live, reflect, create. That's what I want to do. First, I have to live life. Enjoy the time with my family. As my daughter is getting older (almost ready to begin kindergarten), a lot of our "life" routines are very different from what they were when she was a toddler. Then, I reflect on my life. Not only my thoughts about my life, but I think that the word can also refer to the photos that capture the life I'm living. And, finally, create. I've talked about it in previous posts, but I do this hobby for two main reasons: I want to document what happens, and I enjoy being creative. I think, ultimately, most of what I've done has been born out of that desire to create something.
So as I previously stated, I want to use this blog to both document some of what is going on and to share some of what I have created in my digital scrapbook layouts. Today I am sharing a layout that I made back in January, with pictures from February 2016, during one of our Disney days. The layout was made for the Month of Challenges from the-lilypad.com, which they do in January every year. There is a different challenge each day in the month of January, and those who complete all of the challenges get a $20 gift certificate to spend in their store. I had a goal to do all 31 challenges. Although I only completed 18 of them (some of which I loved and some of which was "good enough" for the challenge), I still felt like I accomplished something. I loved the process of thinking about what I wanted to make in order to meet the guidelines of the challenge, I loved the way it got me telling stories I might not tell, and I loved the creativity that got sparked. And definitely, 18 layouts in one month is way more than I would normally do.
The challenge for this layout was to fill a page, so I used this take on a pocket page template by Anna Aspnes of oscraps.com (LOVE her). On this particular Disney day, we took pictures with the props outside of Pirates of the Caribbean while we were waiting for out fast pass time. I also included the other photos from the day, including a family selfie on Thunder Mountain, and my husband goofing off on the monorail.
